Unabridged ; CD.
During World War II, while his father is in Europe fighting and his mother is working in Chicago, a six-year-old boy goes to live with his grandmother in a rural Norwegian American community in Minnesota. There's plenty to do-- help with the chores and getting to know the animals. When his cousin goes into labor, the house fills with women who come to help and work on a quilt containing stories of the boy's family. As they wait and work, the women share these stories with the boy.
