In the first few centuries CE, Christian beliefs and practices grew out of the complex religious melting pot that then thrived in the portion of Middle East bordering the Mediterranean Sea. Despite initial persecution by Roman authorities, the Christians managed to survive and in time their faith became a spiritual guide for people around the globe. The religions beginnings are discussed, along with core beliefs, common practices, and challenges for the future.
