Book
A novel based on a fictional media story from 1992: the dual murders of former award-winning filmmaker and convicted counterfeiter Walker Roe and Riley Dutcher, a recovering alcoholic who quit his job at a landfill on a whim to travel the country and try to find himself. Set partly in Binghamton, New York, and partly in Erie, Pennsylvania, the novel traces the development of the unlikely friendship between the two men from very different walks of life and their attempt to change the world by changing themselves. Rather than being a regular narrative, the story is told through the individual journal entries of Roe and Dutcher, with each man telling his own version of the overlapping events, from their meeting to their untimely deaths. The novel explores the psychology of personal growth and what it really takes to make major changes in life.
